Witness to History: An Evening with Peter Summerfield BEM

We are honoured to welcome Peter Summerfield BEM, grandfather of Harry Sassoon, a member of Kehillat Or Tzion. Peter will share the remarkable and deeply moving story of his and his twin brother George Summerfield z’’l and their experiences in Nazi Germany.

Peter and George were born in 1933 in Berlin, Germany. Peter will recount their memories of Kristallnacht, the dangers they faced as Jewish children, and their escape to the UK, made possible through the extraordinary courage and kindness of a German family who helped save their lives.

Peter and George’s story was featured in the BBC documentary Saved by a Stranger, presented by Anita Rani and first aired on 5 June 2021.
